Song: The Way It Is
Album: The Great Radio Controversy
Yes, these guys have been around a while. Guess what? They're no less amazing than when they began in 1982. Frank Hannon (guitarist) was only 15 when these guys formed the band City Kidd, they later changed the name of their band to Tesla in 1986. Their manager had basically told them that City Kidd was a crappy band name, plus there was another group around the area at that time going by City Kidd as well. Too unoriginal. These guys decided on the name Tesla and even used inspiration from inventor Nikolai Tesla in some of their songs and album titles, such as their first album, "Mechanical Resonance."
Tesla in the 80s
They opened for a number of different acts back in the 80s, like David Lee Roth, Poison, Def Leopard, and Alice Cooper. Even though they opened for these guys, they didn't like being seen as a "glam rock" band. These guys have stood the test of time and have proven that they are much more than just a "glam rock" group.
Their ballad "Love Song" pretty much cemented them into the music scene, helping them grow a loyal fan base and encouraging listeners to delve deeper into the other tracks on their albums. They've been making music and touring since their inception in 1982 and they show no signs of slowing down. Speaking of signs, their cover of the song "Signs" is one of their widest known hits, and for good reason.
The above song, "The Way It Is" is one of my all-time favorites along with "What You Give". Give them a listen yourself. Oh, and if you were hoping to see their show at the end of this month at the Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant, OK then you better already have your tickets because it is SOLD OUT.
